Our stay at Hacienda San Angel was absolutely exquisite. From the moment the doors opened, the hotel felt like a hidden oasis tucked away in Puerto Vallarta. Every detail of the property is thoughtfully curated, creating an atmosphere that is both luxurious, warm and welcoming.

The service was exceptional. Every staff member went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable, consistently checking in and anticipating our needs with genuine warmth and professionalism. Transportation arrangements were seamless and made exploring the area effortless.

Our go-to place in Old Town, Puerto Vallarta. This boutique property has the most wonderful, friendly staff along with the resident dachshunds. The rooms are thoughtfully curated with vintage and antique furniture and historical decor, and the common areas are exquisite. Room service is wonderful. Great location — we look forward to returning to this beautiful gem of a property.

Such a beautiful hotel. We had a fantastic stay. Staff was incredibly friendly and professional, service was always quick, and every single detail of the grounds had something to wonder about. Shoutout Luis who went out of his way to make sure we never spent a moment being thirsty or hungry while we were by one of the 3 pools this hotel has to offer. We will surely be back

One star for the beautiful property, one for the excellent restaurant/bar staff, but unfortunately Hacienda San Angel was not the tranquil luxury hotel we had hoped for to end our Mexican holiday. Our Milagro room was facing a narrow street and was very noisy at night; on the second night, we had to endure shouting and loud Karaoke music until 3:30 AM. Don't think that was an exception as the room comes with earplugs; and with sleeping masks, because it has six high windows without any curtains or covering. Not ideal if you are a light sleeper. Our booking via Mrs and Ms Smith was including breakfast, but every standard item like eggs, bread was a (hefty) extra charge. We never experienced that in a 5 star hotel at a 500 USD a night pricetag, and if you book breakfast in a typical Mexican hotel, you expect it to include Mexican breakfast dishes not just a small pastry and fruit. Also, we see the charm of a historic property (used to it as Europeans), but basic amenities like a coffee maker and plugs to charge your phone next to the bed (at least not on my side of the bed), good wifi (only could get it in the bathroom)are lacking. Note that the property has no parking space and there are no parking garages nearby; we were lucky to find a tight spot on one of the cobblestone streets around the hotel but did not feel very comfortable leaving our rental car there. The reason I write this review is to make sure other guests can make an informed decision; and because we voiced our concerns with the reception, but received no response. At checkout, not even a question "how was your stay"; just "you still have to pay the service charge and some drinks at the bar". Disappointing because it is really a gorgeous property.
Update: see the response of the property below. I think it is illustrating. No apologies, nothing to accomodate us for the discomfort of a sleepless night, just defensive. And: good that you are clear on your website on what you do or don’t offer but make sure that the booking websites you work with are also accurate then.

Hacienda San Angel is an incredibly good restaurant - indeed, it is in the top 5 restaurants we have ever dined in. We had a stunning view of the Puerto Vallarta bay, the server Marco was extremely knowledgeable and kind, and the food was sublime. We had incredible cocktails, the best tuna, sashimi style, excellent angel hair seafood pasta, awesome shrimp, and delightful desserts. This is a prime destination for every Puerto Vallarta trip.

Hacienda San Angel is pure magic a hidden gem perched in the hills of Old Town Puerto Vallarta, just behind the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Built on what was once Richard Burton’s villa, this historic property blends old-world romance with modern luxury.

Each of the 12 suites is beautifully unique, filled with fine linens, handmade soaps, and little details like local chocolates left at turndown. The angel statues throughout the property give it a serene, sacred feeling it’s luxury with soul.

I’ve stayed here more than ten times, and every visit is unforgettable. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely happy, they make you feel like family the moment you arrive. The atmosphere is peaceful, elegant, and deeply welcoming.

Puerto Vallarta itself has a wonderful sense of community part San Francisco, part Austin, part tropical paradise and Hacienda San Angel captures that spirit perfectly. It’s a place you fall in love with over and over again.

This place is so charming and unique, it is simply incredible. We've traveled our share, but never have we experiences anything even remotely close to this. I don’t think I’ve ever been so well taken care of as during our stay here. Everything was absolutely perfect. The staff goes above and beyond in every possible way — from remembering our names and room number to anticipating what we might need before we even ask.

Our room was spotless and refreshed twice a day — beds perfectly made, fresh towels waiting, flowers left on the nightstand, and even chocolates each evening. It’s those thoughtful touches that make all the difference.

Whether in the room or lounging by the pool, we always felt genuinely cared for. A special thank you to Luis, who looked after us most of the time — his kindness, attention to detail, and warm smile made our stay truly unforgettable.

This hotel sets a new standard for hospitality. I can’t recommend it enough and would return in a heartbeat!

Absolutely extraordinary!! From the moment we stepped in we got welcomed with a drink and the atmosphere was vibrant and magical. We were very well attended by everyone. We have to give a special appreciation to Raul our server. He made our stay such joyful and full of laughter. Their attention to detail was immaculate. Amazing meals and drinks were provided anytime of the day. Luis made my husband a personalized drink that had fresh herbs from their garden, and made us feel very unique. We had amazing views from our private terrace and the food was amazing. My wife and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary and the restaurant and staff made it extra special for us, especially Raul who treated us amazing and had both my wife and I laughing and smiling the whole night at dinner. The staff overall was friendly, professional, and respectful. The hotel was very clean and every time we would return for the day after exploring the town in the heat, Luis would greet us with delicious refreshments and drinks. Truly a unique experience and we will be returning!

One of the most beautiful properties I have ever stayed at. Flat out gorgeous!

Three small pools, one heated.
So many little courtyards & sitting areas.
Ac in the rooms, but also a great breeze from being up at the top of a little hill.
Tasty & simple breakfast included that you can have in your room.

Surprisingly good food, even poolside. Cocktails were also delicious!

We stayed in the crown view suite which has a great view, and lovely layout. Just note that the bathroom window is just a curtain (no glass) so if you are loud/noise conscious it may not be the beat match for you.

We came here for dinner and were immediately met with an unwelcoming attitude from Norma. She seated us by the kitchen, and when we politely asked for a different table, she refused. We understand that the restaurant was full, but a simple smile or a bit of kindness would have made all the difference. Given the price point, we expected a better experience, at the very least, good hospitality. Unfortunately, this left a bad impression, and we won’t be returning.

Instead, we went across the street to La Capella, where the ambiance was much better, the food was excellent, and the staff was genuinely welcoming!

Update review April 6th

Yes, we did arrive late, but we called ahead to ask if it was still okay to come, and the person who answered assured us it was totally fine. Does that give Norma the right to be rude when we arrived? She gave us attitude and didn’t even listen when we tried to speak to her.

We understand that no good tables were available at that point, but a polite explanation would have been enough—we would’ve completely understood.

We just got back from a lovely week in Puerto Vallarta. We stayed at Hacienda San Angel. It is a beautiful, charming hotel. The rooms are gorgeous. The food is amazing - the continental breakfast, food by the pool and at the hotel restaurant. We tried it all: ) The staff was so, so nice and accommodating. I highly recommend this hotel. Exceptional Sunday brunch experience with prime rib. The restaurant is set in a quaint charming hacienda that used to be owned by Richard Burton.

A good selection of high quality ingredients including prime ribs,smoked salmon, shrimp, cold cuts and cheese. They also have an egg station where a chef will make eggs and omelette to your liking. Brunch deal includes mimosa, coffee but you pay extra for Bloody Mary bar.

The staff and service were top notch. Friendly, attentive and personable like the rest of Vallarta. They also have a live violinist that can play anything you request.

The atmosphere was very quaint, more cozy and charming compared to La Capella which is just across the road. I love the grandeur of La Capella and the interior and the view is unbeatable but Hacienda San Angel feels more intimate and less of a tourist destination.

If you love your prime ribs then I definitely recommend the Sunday brunch here. A real treat in a beautiful intimate setting.

The staff was incredibly attentive during our three-night, four-day stay, making us feel welcomed and cared for the entire time.

Staying in a spacious, unique room with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean was such a refreshing change from the typical hotel experience.

The highlight of our visit was definitely the food. Every meal was a 10/10, thanks to the talented, world-class chefs. One of my favorites was the Chilean sea bass with mashed potatoes and baby carrots—it was absolutely delicious. For breakfast, I had red chilaquiles with fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. And the red snapper fish tacos for lunch were simply the best I’ve ever had.

I can’t wait to return and recommend this beautiful boutique luxury hotel to our friends and family.

I will start by saying WOW. This is such a beautiful hotel that really captures the hacienda feel. From all the decorations to the candles that they light on the stairs at night to light the stairways was all beautiful.

We celebrated a friend’s birthday with dinner at Hacienda San Angel on a Saturday night. It was a large group of 16.

Most impressive is the setting and the environment it is old México at its best. We were greeted by a smiling, accommodating hostess in a lush garden setting.

We were seated upstairs outdoors in the dining area with stunning views of all of Puerto Vallarta.

Service was just excellent. Every staff member was happy, knowledgeable and quick.

The crisp white table linens were sophisticated and elegant. The whole vibe was very romantic.

The food was just okay. Selection was adequate. Plating was beautiful. However, the food overall was neither special nor memorable.

Overall, it’s a great romantic experience but the food could use some imagination.

Knock and knock again on the small wooden antique door. And wait a bit and a lady will greet you and let you enter into a magnificent Mexican hacienda estate. This by itself is worth the price of admission. Unfortunately we're here just to have food and experience their wonderful restaurant. We were not disappointed and the mariachi band was probably the best I have ever heard. We came for restaurant week which the fixed fare was as very delicious. I loved the snapper. My wife commented that the pork was a bit dry. The service was excellent.
