This is a beautiful place to visit. The beach is very beautiful and clean. The swimming pool's was very clean. The food was very delicious. The only thing I can complain about, was the bacon tasted like rubber and the bread was hard before you put it in the toaster. The shows they had was very good. I would come back again.
The hotel Riu Emerald left a great impression! The food was delicious with a wide variety of dishes to suit every taste — everything was fresh and beautifully presented. The evening shows were a real highlight: every night there was something new, with vibrant performances, music, and dancing — fun and entertaining for the whole family.
There was plenty to do during the day as well. We joined in on aqua aerobics, which was a fun and energetic way to start the day, and we also enjoyed playing beach volleyball. The atmosphere of active relaxation was perfect!
The staff deserves a special mention — very friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. You can really feel that they care about the guests.

First time to Mazatlan. The Riu did not disappoint at all. I wouldn't say the food was fantastic, but it was very good. The room and entire resort were spotlessly clean. Plenty of beach loungers available so there was never a panic to go out at 5am to reserve a spot. Great drink service at the beach bar and at the loungers on the beach. Staff were extremely professional and courteous. Money exchange from large bills to smaller bills at front desk was not ever a problem. The weather for our stay in late March 2025 was wonderful. 27 degrees Celcius every day. I wouldn't hesitate to return in the future.
Don't bother choosing this resort for the watersides. They open at 10 and close at 5pm and all day Wednesday. If you have any jewelry be prepared to remove it to use the slides even string bracelets, if you have permanent jewelry you will be turned away or you have to cut it off! Great wolf lodge doesn't even require this and the slides are way bigger! Having this information would have been helpful before we booked as we have permanent sentimental jewelry that cannot be removed! Very disappointed in this aspect. I can fully understand safety however as mentioned larger waterparks don't require this. A waiver offered to guests to use at own risk would have been nice!

We stayed in the family ocean view as a couple and the room was great very spacious and wonderful view. The resort was too kid friendly as a couple to be honest personally would not stay here again because of that also the resort is so big and the elevators are sometime not very quick so it’s like definitely annoying to take 20 min out of your day to make it all the way up to your room and then come back down if you forgot something. Also the food variety was not good everything was the same. Also the restaurants where all buffets no actual nice sit down restaurants. Additionally, the ocean was not swimmable always had jellyfish and sting ray signs. As I write this I am realizing that this is definitely not something I should give my initial four star review too and am going to now change it to three stars. Made the best out of the trip but would not come back. But the people and service where great and they cleaned the rooms perfectly. If you’re looking for a family friendly trip this place is nice but for a romantic getaway do not come!!!
We just stayed 7 nights March 21-28 at this wonderful superb hotel, room 1221-1222, everything was fabulous and the quality service we received from the staff was great. Thank you Anna - reception supervisor for your assistance, Alberto one of the restaurants staff and Gerardo our beach volleyball coach and all of the RIU staff from housekeeping to chefs. You guys are excellent in making your guests feel valued. RIU Hotel is very lucky to have you guys! The view from our room was a jaw dropping…ocean and all the pools. The food was excellent - massive choices of everything from appies, snacks, buffet and fine dining. My family and I are not alcohol lovers but you made us love your cappuccino and fresh squeeze healthy drinks- love your green spinach drinks. Pool activities and exercises are great. It’s definitely not a five star resort. Maybe 4 stars.
Resort is super clean. All staff are very friendly and super polite. Room is outdated and very simple. Cleaning staff is doing amazing job cleaning. Housekeeping did an excellent job with the room.
Bathroom very simple, clean, hot water always available however, only shampoo, soap and hairdryer available in the bathroom.
Food is amazing. Very delicious. Very fresh. TONS of options for the buffets.
Mixed Drinks are just ok
Coffee/cappuccino not the greatest.
The entertainment was just ok. Not much to do on the property in the evenings/nights.
No issues with the elevators.
Beach is nice but not for swimming. Good for surfing. We went beginning of March so it was not hot, it was windy and evening was cold, water in the ocean was very cold.

The hotel is absolutely immaculate! Even as large as the property is, we never felt crowded. Although the food was very good, it was never hot, but always warmish. The filet and the salmon in the Italian restaurant were both excellent! The Asian restaurant was also very good. Of all the bars we had drinks in, none of them made a decent margarita. For the most part, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our house keeping gal, Anna Rosa was the absolute best. It’s quite likely we would return!
As a frequent customer of the Riu hotel chain, I have visited the resorts of Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Los Cabos, Guanacaste and Puerto Vallarta several times, so I arrived at the Riu Mazatlán with high expectations. However, I must confess that my experience was disappointing, especially considering that it is more expensive than other Riu and has several shortcomings.
To begin with, the facilities leave a lot to be desired. There were few light sockets in the room and one of them was not even working. As for restaurant reservations, the system is inconvenient: you can only reserve by going to reception at 7 a.m. or, on some occasions, through the app, which greatly limits flexibility.
Another negative point was the food. While breakfast and dinner at the buffet were acceptable, the food was quite austere and basic, with little variety and options that do not meet the standard of other Riu's.
What disappointed me the most was the check-out policy and the use of the facilities after departure. At all the other Riu's I've visited, you can continue using the facilities for a couple of hours before your shuttle passes, but not here. In fact, they ask you to check out from 11 a.m. (when the usual time is until 12), although if you request it, you can do it until that time. Even so, it seemed disrespectful to me that they tried to advance the start. Also, if you want to stay a couple more hours at the facility after check-out, you have to pay 350 pesos per person, which, considering the cost of the hotel, is not worth it.
The only positive thing was the attention of the staff, who were friendly and attentive at all times. However, for the price and restrictions, I would recommend staying at another hotel if you visit Mazatlán. If you can choose another Riu in another destination, do so, but this particular one is not up to the chain's standard.

Below average at best. Food is sub par, booze is the worst. Mystery drinks that taste horrible.
Nice place. Well located hotel. Beautiful beach 40 minutes from the airport. The buffets are very noisy as well as the lobby bar. No seafood. Difficult to reserve a la carte restaurants which are also buffets. Very very clean hotel. Vendors omnipresent on the beach which is very unpleasant and even more so the fanfare which starts playing at 1 p.m. every day makes a cacophonous and also unpleasant sound

The drinks are terrible. They are all sickly sweet and artificial tasting. They served us a welcome drink that tasted like cherry gatorade with half a cup of sugar. They can not accommodate allergies, despite their repeated assurance they could on the phone. Celiac members of the party were constantly sick and basically forced to eat only boiled eggs and fruit to be safe. Tons of blatant cross contamination, things being fried together. They have labels, but almost 60% are missing, the other 20% label the wrong food. Wish they would just be honest and say they can't do allergies before we booked. Communication is more challenging than one would expect in an international tourist destination. Felt very understaffed. Only 2 English TV channels. Only way to get a restaurant reservation is to be up at 730 am, because the app doesn't work. Nice beach, clean, lots of pools are the only redeeming features.
Various types of rooms available depending on the number of guests. The service is terrific everywhere except the gym. The food is absolutely amazing! The hotel is about a 35-45 bus ride into downtown. Cabs also available almost anytime. Beach is beautiful, and lifeguards are on duty all day. Five pools, slide park, poolside service for drinks. Premium liquor. Activities all day if you want them. Shows in the evening. Mini bar and liquor in the rooms. There is an app for the hotel so you always know what's on offer. Can make restaurant reservations on the app, too. What more could you want?!
Great resort, exceptional staff and service. We have come 5 years in a row. Only feedback is they need to improve their wifi coverage and speed.

The facilities are fine, but the service is lousy, lousy, lousy, the administration staff almost do you the favor of being in their facilities, the pool bar staff don't even fight you for serving the bunch of drunks that are there. They sit there, they take you out of the pools without any education, they practically throw you out, and it is also the only riu of all the ones we have visited (and there have been many) that they take off your bracelet as soon as you check out and that's it. You can't leave the lobby until the van passes by to take you to the airport 3 hours later, we practically paid for an extra day without fully enjoying it. very very bad.
I traveled 3 weeks ago with my mother. She was delighted and what she liked most was the security in the hotel and the only thing that bothered her a little was the service in the elevators. The only detail is the service of some of the employees in the main restaurant. They only offered us a drink and from there they dedicated themselves to serving some foreigners who were around us. Special mention of Don Dany, from the central restaurant. Excellent attention!!! We hope to return very soon.
Everything was luxurious, service, food, rooms, only one small inconvenience was the elevator service, which was a little late all the time and it is exasperating from there, everything was excellent. I recommend it and of course I would return to this place.

Very clean hotel rooms and beautiful views
Overall a positive experience. The staff is great, they are constantly cleaning and are very helpful. We were on the 3rd floor in a beach view room with 2 beds (king and double I think). Our room was an okay temperature but the humidity was almost unbearable (75%+) even with the AC on constantly. We found opening the balcony doors was better, in the AM and PM, especially if the humidity outside was less. Bring slippers for the hotel room, the floors got sandy despite our efforts (they're cleaned every day but still, we tracked in sand). When you're poolside, don't leave food unattended otherwise you'll get birds swarming and it's really annoying. The food was pretty good overall, we ate at the buffet in the newer building mostly, because they have a big outdoor patio with lots of tables. Decent variety of food for breakfast and dinner there. For lunch we sometimes did the big inside buffet but also sometimes just had burgers by the pool. If you get the food while it's freshest (just being put out) it's the best. We tried the Tabasco and Bamboo restaurants, Bamboo was really good Japanese/Asian fusion although quite salty. Tabasco was decent but was a bit overshadowed by Mr Lionso's the next day (off resort, just down the street) which was excellent. Unfortunately one person in our party got sick from the pool water on the last day - he accidentally got a fair bit of water up his nose and got a bad case of travellers diarrhea. So please be sure to be extra careful with the water here, in the pool and showers, don't get any in your eyes/mouth/nose!
First time to Mazatlan. Lots of pool chairs and beautiful pools. Tried the Mexican restaurant last evening, the fajitas were cold, had to find our own tortillas, the waiter just seemed to forget us. I had the grouper. It tasted great but again was cold. Nothing on menu for children who aren't into Mexican food. Buffets are great, so many choices.

Our first time in Mexico, celebrated my birthday. This resort did not disappoint. Upon entering the room we were greeted with a birthday gift. The staff were friendly and attentive. The room was cleaned daily. Our room had two double beds and a pull out couch; family of four were very comfortable. Food was really good; with several buffet options. Multiple pools to choose from. The grounds of the resort and common areas were constantly being cleaned. My only suggestion nightly entertainment can be a liitle more inclusive; it had alot of Mexican elements. There can also be background music playing in the pool areas. The mini bar was never restocked our entire stay. Overall no major complaints.Would definitely stay at the Riu Resorts again.
Just returned from the Riu and loved our stay! First time to Mazatlan and it was beautiful. The resort is about 30 min from downtown. Felt totally safe wandering around during the day and also at night in a group. Sunsets were unreal, beach has soft white sand, big waves but you can walk quite far out before it gets deep so felt safe going in the ocean with the red flags up. Food is all buffet style including 2 that require reservations. Tons of options and we were never hungry. The bed wasn't very comfortable but not a big deal. Resort was extremely clean and the staff are working around the clock to keep it that way!! I would definitely visit the Riu emerald Bay again ☺️
